Week 3 - Multicultural Stereotypes Activity

I am choosing to list several stereotypes associated with athletes.

Dumb
Strong
Not engaged
"popular"
Cliques
Focused


As I was coming up with this list, I began to notice that the old view of athletes are changing in today's society. At least I think this to be true. I went to a school were the athletes were smart, most of us were in honor's classes and really worked hard to make the honor roll. I was apart of this group, so maybe my list is bias, but I think it is a real accomplishment to keep good grades and also be a good player. Some, like me, even had to balance school, sports, and then a job.

We can educate ourselves to understand that the stereotypes associated with different groups are not true to everyone in the group. Maybe joining a different group would allow us to learn that the people are not what the stereotypes suggest. Even taking courses like this one will allow people to learn about the different groups and realize that the stereotypes need to end.
