Entry 7 - "Why we need gender-neutral bathrooms"

*my opinion is very much stated in this post, please know that I am trying to be polite about it and apologize if it offends. I don't want to fail because of my opinion.

First off, she uses the term tom-boy in the wrong context. A tomboy doesn't have to be a transgender female that seems to think they are a boy. I grew up a tomboy, I played with tractors, football with my dad and cousins, even with the boys at recess. I wore shorts and a t-shirt for most of my school career, until freshman year and then I chose to dress up a little more. I KNOW I am a girl, I do not "feel" as though I am a boy, yet I like to do typical "boy" things. That is what a tomboy is, in my opinion at least.

Why are their insecurities and concerns about public restrooms more important than mine? Just because I fit into the "two-bathroom style"box, I don't get to worry about my concerns? I don't want to share a bathroom with a man that "feels" like a girl. I might be naive and intolerant, but I feel as though that is a boundary that shouldn't be crossed.

But, now that my opinion is out there in the open waving around in everyone's faces, Ivan Coyote did make a point that I seem to think would make a big difference. If I put them in the "two-bathroom style" box and a girl walks in looking very much like a boy, but she is indeed fit to use the girls restroom, how am I to know if she is or not? I feel like asking if you need to be in here is a little much, so maybe I have just totally made a mess of my decision.

Having a bathroom, possibly like the "family" ones you see at Target, some gas stations, and various other places, where the transgender community can use it peacefully can be the best solution to the problem. I can still use the "girls" bathroom and they can use their separate bathroom. That sounds like the civil rights, "Separate but equal", but Coyote did say that is what she is pushing for.
