Ken Robinson: Changing education paradigms | TED Talk

I enjoyed Ken Robinson's speech. It really made me think about my education, my future education, and how education is going to change in the years that I am a teacher. My grandma is a retired Special Ed teacher, and she mentions all the time that the education profession is always changing. But, Robinson made me think, is it changing for the better? Are we always going to have standardized testing? Can we have smaller class sizes and teach things in different ways? Combine subjects, maybe? I think it would be worth a thought to think about letting High School students pick their schedule, and "major", just like they will in college.

I found it interesting that Robinson made the connection that ADHD has become more diagnosed now that we have standardized testing in schools. I think its sad to say, but I am not surprised by this connection. Also that we spit students out of schools like a machine, not even fully preparing them for their universities, or vocation.

It's also interesting that in Kindergarten we have more ability to think creatively and that it declines as we get older. Education doesn't provide enough creative learning. We are just taught what is on the standardized test and then we go on to the next class.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch Ken Robinson's speech "Changing education paradigms." The video really made me think about my future career path and where we should be heading as a society, to better our society.
